Therapeutic Tabletop Gaming

Sometimes the dragons that follow us aren’t just from fiction. But that’s okay, you don’t have to face them alone.

Therapeutic Tabletop Games use TTRPGs (Tabletop Role-playing Games) as a lens to help guide individuals through scenarios to help through a variety of troubles that plague even the most hardy of real world adventurers.

WHAT IS A TABLETOP GAME?

Tabletop Games, started in the 1970s and since then have grown into one of the largest interactive media forms in the world. TTRPG has become an umbrella term for games spanning from playing alone with a journal and a deck of cards to a group of people playing either in person or online to create a story using systems in the game to help create outcomes. These games aim to build a narrative that grows with continued play.

WHAT IS AN INDIE GAME?

An Indie Game, or Independent Game, is a game designed by a small studio or individual designer without the oversight of larger production companies.

WHY DOES OUROBOROS ONLY USE INDIE DESIGNED TTRPGS?

Because we think they’re neat!

With a combined over 20 years in the tabletop space, we’ve found that widely known games don’t work well for therapeutic environments. We try to avoid using systems and settings that have inherent bias and social issues, overly complicated mechanics that take the focus away from character interactions, or problematic practices of the companies that create them.

By sticking with Indie, we feel we’re able to do two-fold good:

1. Find the best game to help our clients 2. Supporting the community to continue to create Indie TTRPGs.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We work with our clients to find the right game to help with their specific needs. Then, our Geek Therapeutics Certified Game Masters will focus on designing scenarios to happen in the game that will allow the client to use a surrogate that they build with the GM; their character. This character lets them interact and face consequences in a safe, supportive space.

We have no barrier to entry for people wanting to explore Therapeutic Tabletop. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never rolled a die before or have a collection the size of a dragon’s hoard. We welcome lone adventurers and groups with open arms.
